President Trump admin defunds abortion providers of taxpayer dollars

The Trump administration has cut off taxpayer funding for abortion providers after adopting the ‘Protect Life Rule’ barring facilities that receive federal family planning funds from performing or referring women for abortions.

According the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) the Family Life Rule would cut off around $60 million from Planned Parenthood, the world’s largest abortion provider, as well as other smaller abortion providers.

Previously the Trump administration cut off federal funding for non-governmental organisations that provide abortion counselling or referrals or advocate to decriminalize abortion or expand abortion services.

This new ruling which was approved last week by the US Court of Appeals will prohibit the use of the funds to “perform, promote, refer for, or support abortion as a method of family planning.”

As a result of this move Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers currently in receipt of federal funds will either have to cease terminating the lives of unborn babies, an incredibly lucrative enterprise or move their abortion providing facilities and staff off site to an unfunded location.

The law itself has been in existence for some time but has never been properly enforced until now.

This, along with increasingly stricter rules surrounding the ending of the life of the pre-born in numerous states, is being hailed as a turning of tide in the fight against abortion by pro-life advocates in the US and globally.
