Hundreds of applicants for international protection who were camped in Dublin’s city centre have been relocated to different types of tent accommodations, reports RTE.
After the Government ceased offering State accommodations to applicants for international protection in December, they had been camped out in the open outside the International Protection Office.
According to the Department of Integration, the lodging will be available for more than only St. Patrick’s Day weekend, reports RTE.
Due to a shortage of basic sanitary facilities, volunteers have warned of a humanitarian disaster in the camp.
Many of the tents that had been left abandoned and cut were scattered over the Mount Street neighbourhood. Additionally, there was an accumulation of trash nearby.
The other lodging option is available at a location in County Dublin’s Crooksling, reports RTE.
