In a strange turn of events, the ongoing discussions over the Russian naval military exercises off the coast of Ireland have led to a report on American television where a reporter has said that there isn’t much Ireland can do about it.

According to the Irish Mirror, MSNBC reporter Rachel Maddow spoke about how everyone is “worried” about Ireland, and how we will not be able to act in any meaningful way because we have no military strength:

“There’s not much Ireland itself can do about it, Ireland, I mean no offence, do not have much of a navy, Ireland literally has no military radar in the entire country. They don’t have military radar, they’ve navigational radar but no military radar. Ireland does not have a single ship that’s capable of launching a helicopter off of it, they just don’t have that kind of military capacity.”

The report also covered how fishermen here have organised “a plan to stop it”.

The situation is rumbling on as it has also been reported that the Russian Ambassador to Ireland has been invited to an Oireachtas Committee to discuss the situation.
