Whatsapp advise users to update their app immediately over security concerns

Whatsapp have advised all their users to upgrade their app immediately over security concerns.

The world’s biggest text messaging service has advised its users to upgrade the app and told the Data Protection Commission that there’s a serious security vulnerability with their current version.

The company, which is owned by Facebook, rolled out an immediate security fix after tech experts suspected that hackers could inject surveillance software on to phones via the call function.

The app has a total of around 1.5 billion people using it, mostly daily. The security breach meant that hackers could install malicious code on iPhones and Android phones by ringing up a target device.

The code then could transmit on to other users even if they didn’t answer a call or read a text.

People are strongly advised to update their version of the app as soon as possible and to share this information with their friends.
