Met Eireann have warned motorists to be extremely vigilant overnight and on Easter Monday as temperatures sink to -3c with widespread snowfalls and frost prevalent.
The national weather forecaster says that conditions will be treacherous for those who’ll be on the roads with pedestrians advised to be careful if they’re out for early morning walks also.
While Easter Sunday was mild and settled, with long sunny spells, and little to no rain, the weather is about to take a steep change.
But the fine conditions will end by Sunday evening as a mass of Arctic air begins to influence Irish weather. Patchy rain will begin to develop by Sunday afternoon across northern areas, spreading southwards as the evening goes on.
Monday will see some wintry falls, particularly over high ground across Ulster and north Connacht, with temperatures remaining in single digits. Monday night is expected to see freezing weather as temperatures sink to below zero.
Tuesday is forecast to be another cold, but mostly dry day, with daytime temperatures reaching 7C at best, and night time temperatures sinking to -3C at times.
People are asked to share this information with their friends, especially those who’ll be on the roads.
