BREAKING: Mother living in Waterford found guilty of manslaughter and child neglect of her newborn baby daughter who was dumped in a bin

A mother living in Waterford City has been found guilty of manslaughter of her baby at the Caredoc centre in Waterford in 2018. She was also found guilty of child neglect.

The mother, who is over 18 years old, attended Waterford’s Caredoc with her own mother and grandmother in 2018 where she gave birth to a baby girl in a toilet cubicle, having just left the doctors consulting room.
After giving birth, she then put her new born baby in a metal bin.

She returned to the consulting room 13 minutes later, but did not mention the birth. The doctor referred the accused to University Hospital Waterford.

The court heard the baby was in the bin for 30 minutes at Caredoc by the time the accused and her mother arrived at UHW. The accused denied the birth and engaged in a fiction that she was 25 weeks pregnant, counsel said.

Gardai were called to Caredoc after blood stains were discovered in the toilet. After a search, Gardai discovered the baby girls body when the contents of the bin were searched.

The mother cannot be named for legal reasons.

According to Breakingnews.ie, it took a jury of eight men and four women three and a half hours to deliver a verdict of guilty in the case of a woman accused of the manslaughter of her baby. The woman will be sentenced in January.
