Stephanie Knox, the then girlfriend of hero Davitt Walsh has been reported innumerble times over the past 24 hours as allegedly suing the remaining family of the deceased from the Donegal pier tragedy.

Sean McGrotty, his sons Mark and Evan, Ruth Daniels and her daughter Jodie-Lee all lost their lives when Sean McGrotty’s Audi Q7 slid into the sea at Lough Swilly on March 20th 2016

The couple’s 4-month-old baby Rioghnach-Ann was thankfully saved when Davitt Walsh recognised what was going on and jumped into action by swimming out to the jeep and saving the infant.

According to Derry News, Sean McGrotty’s father has received a legal letter from Mr Walsh’s then girlfriend, Stephanie Knox.

The letter states that she is claiming an undisclosed sum on money from his late son’s estate for loss of earnings and other matters due to the tragedy.

It’s understood that Knox was walking with Walsh when the tragedy occured – but Davitt Walsh was the only one of the two who swam out to the jeep.

Stephanie Knox is said to have minded the baby when Walsh brought her to the shore and then tried to return to the jeep to rescue more people.

Noel McGrotty told Derry News that the letter arrived by recorded delivery but he wasn’t sure why he received it as he wasn’t the executor of his son’s assets.

“It was a private delivery and I had to sign for it,” Mr McGrotty said.

“It was a big envelope full of legal documents – hard for the ordinary man in the street to understand.

“Then I saw the name Knox and realised it was from the girl that took the baby when she was brought out of the water that day.”

However according to IrishNews.com, Stephanie Knox posted on Facebook that she didn’t think she’d be suing the McGrotty family and instead thought she would be suing Donegal County Council.

Late last night the Derry woman posted on Facebook that she thought that her claim would have been against Donegal County Council and an insurance company rather than 86-yr-Noel McGrotty and his family.

“Never in my life did I think it would be coming from the family,” she wrote on the social media giant.

It’s understood that she has lodged the claim because she had been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder since the tragedy.
