The brother of American rapper and pop-singer, Nicki Minaj, has been jailed 25 years to life in New York court after being found guilty of child rape TMZ has reported.
Jelani Maraj (41) was found guilty in November 2017 of repeatedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl over a period of eight months.
Maraj had claimed that his celebrity sister, whose real name is Onika Maraj-Petty, would testify in his defence after she visited him in prison in 2017 however, this did not happen.
Maraj’s victim, who was aged 14 at the time of the trial, gave harrowing testimony of the various ways in which she was assaulted by her abuser and her brother also testified that he had witnessed his sister being assaulted on one occasion.
The defence team for Maraj claimed that accusations were concocted by his victims’ mother in an attempt to extort millions of dollars in hush money from his sister, singer Nicki Minaj.
However, DNA analysis of the girl’s pyjama bottoms proved to be a one-in-291 billion match with Maraj.
